Having developed and released not one but two world-renowned supercars, the Porsche 959 and Carrera GT, rumors began circling the automotive landscape that the German company was planning their next endeavor. Those rumors were confirmed upon the release of the concept car at the 80th Geneva Motor Show in March of 2010: The Porsche 918 Spyder. Porsche would take three years before unveiling the production model at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, but Porsche’s introduction was clear: their hyper car was here. Boasting a marvel of technological wizardry, the 918 Spyder was Porsche’s answer to the ever evolving and skyrocketing performance standards. The 918 Spyder used a 4.6-liter V8 engine based on the same underpinnings as the RS Spyder LeMans Prototype, but the real news was the supplemental drivetrain. Porsche added two large electric motors to boost performance: one to drive the front axle and another to supplement the engine. This all-wheel drive hybrid drivetrain yielded an astounding 875 horsepower and 944lb/ft of torque, good for a 0-60 time of 2.4 seconds. With Porsche producing only 918 examples of this hybrid hyper car, it is an exceedingly rare car that is packed with an immense amount of performance wrapped in an easy-to-use package. Dubbed one of the “holy trinity” supercars alongside the McLaren P1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari, the Porsche 918 will down in history as one of the greatest performance vehicles ever engineered. Only 294 Porsche 918s were built for the U.S. market. Now for those that thought “my 918 Spyder needs a little bit more performance”, there was a special box that you could tick while spec’ing your Porsche: The Weissach package. An $84,000 option over the base 918, only approximately 230 cars of the total 918 production were optioned with this package. This included a host of weight saving upgrades, including bespoke lightweight magnesium wheels engineered by BBS, carbon fiber parts such as the windscreen frame, mirrors, and roof, an extended aerodynamic diffuser, and special carbon fiber interior trim. All said and done, this allowed Porsche to shave 100lbs out of the vehicle, enhancing both its performance and visual appeal at the same time. The 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder here was ordered new and delivered to Porsche of Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Optioned in paint-to-sample Oryx White Pearl paint with Authentic Onyx Black leather interior, Front Axle Lift system and other options, the total MSRP was $1,009,275 in 2015. The first owner of the 918 would have the car regularly serviced at the same dealership for their entire tenure, driving the Porsche only 277 miles by the end of 2017. In 2018 the 918 Spyder found a new home in San Diego, California where it was also regularly serviced at Hoehn Porsche Carlsbad. In March of 2019 a major 4-year service was performed to the tune of approximately $15,000, and during this time Porsche factory recall services were performed. Serviced regularly with an oil change in August of 2020. The next caretaker, a Northern California resident and known collector of exquisite automobiles, ensured that the Porsche 918 was maintained correctly. In January 2023 the 918 underwent a major service to the tune of $18,209 which included all fluids changed, coils, plugs, and an inspection. This also included 4 brand new Michelin PS Cup 2 tires, which alone were $3,847. At this time the odometer had barely reached 1,035 miles. The Porsche 918 includes its original window sticker, books, tools, car cover, and vehicle charger. Now ready for its next owner to drive on special occasions, take on spirited drives, or even downtown regularly, the Porsche 918 Spyder stands out that it is an infinitely usable hypercar that makes even the mundane trips want you to grab the keys. Upon arrival at Canepa, every collector vehicle for sale is put through and extensive and diligent process called the “Canepa Difference”. This includes a major and comprehensive mechanical inspection where all systems are checked and serviced as necessary. They also receive award-winning concours-level detail, including a thorough cleaning of each and every surface that ensures that every car is a sight to behold.
